What are the characteristics of spiral groove milling in precision parts processing
In precision parts processing, the spiral grooves machined by milling machines are usually spiral grooves formed by Archimedes lines, which can be divided into plane spiral grooves and cylindrical spiral grooves. The machining of the plane spiral groove is similar to the machining of the straight forming surface of the disc cam. The processing of cylindrical spiral groove has the following technological characteristics:
(1) Generally, the universal indexing head is configured with an exchange gear for processing. The exchange gear is configured with two methods: indexing head side shaft configuration and spindle configuration to adapt to different lead needs.
(2) Disk milling cutter or finger milling cutter can be used for milling cylindrical spiral groove. When milling, if disk milling cutter is used, an included angle shall be formed between the milling cutter and the workpiece axis. The angle turned shall be calculated according to the helix angle. The angle rotation is generally realized by the workbench or end milling head.
(3) Interference phenomenon exists in the milling of cylindrical spiral groove. milling interference is caused by the change of helix angle of different diameters and the curvature radius of disc milling cutter. interference will affect the groove shape of spiral groove.
(4) When using special milling cutter to mill spiral groove in precision parts processing, such as spiral groove of fried dough twist drill, it must be adjusted according to the designed tool setting parameters to meet the processing requirements of the design parameters.
