Why can't Americans say "aluminum" correctly?
The American Chemical Society (ACS) officially adopted aluminum in 1925, but in 1990 the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) accepted aluminum as an international standard. So here we are today: Aluminum is used by English speakers in North America, and it is used elsewhere.
