Injection molding is a molding manufacturing technique. Today, almost every plastic part is manufactured by injection molding, because it can manufacture a large number of identical parts in a short time and at a very low cost.

Whilst the part cost is lower, injection molding has a higher setup cost mainly from the cost of making the tooling (using CNC) Mold tooling can cost anywhere from a few hundred pounds to six figures depending on complexity.

The material used for the tooling varies according to the number of parts to be made and the precision required. All thermoplastics can be molded (polymers that soften when heated and harden when cooled). Some silicones and thermoset resins can also be molded.
