What Actually Determines the Success of a Custom CNC Part?

Latest company news about What Actually Determines the Success of a Custom CNC Part?

A fast CNC quote is useful, but it is not the same as a manufacturable part. In practice, the most expensive mistakes usually appear before cutting starts: an unclear material grade, a missing surface-finish requirement, or a tolerance applied to every feature instead of only the critical ones.

For a prototype or one-off component, an MOQ of 1 can be a sensible starting point. It lets the engineer verify the fit, thread quality, concentricity, and assembly sequence before committing to a batch. However, the drawing should identify datums, inspection points, thread standards, and any dimensions that affect function. A general tolerance cannot replace this information.

The ±0.005 mm capability shown in the image should also be understood correctly. It is not a blanket promise for every size and feature. Achieving that level depends on the material, geometry, machine condition, tool wear, workholding, temperature control, and measurement method. A responsible supplier first confirms whether the tolerance is technically necessary and economically reasonable.

A good DFM review should flag deep holes, sharp internal corners, thin walls, difficult setups, and post-processing risks. Three-hour quotation and DFM feedback are valuable only when the submitted files contain enough engineering information. The best result is not simply the lowest price; it is a part that can be inspected, assembled, and repeated reliably in production.
