Steel surface treatment methods

The purpose of steel surface treatment is to improve its corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, aesthetics and other application-specific requirements. Here are some common steel surface treatments:

Galvanizing: Galvanizing is the coating of a zinc layer on the surface of steel, usually by hot-dip galvanizing or electro-galvanizing. Zinc has excellent corrosion resistance and can effectively prevent steel from rusting.

Paint or Coat: Apply anticorrosive paint, coating, or coating to the steel surface to create a protective film. This can provide corrosion resistance, aesthetics, and other specific features such as resistance to high temperatures, chemicals, etc.

Phosphating treatment: Improves the corrosion resistance of steel by forming a phosphide layer on the surface of the steel. Phosphating treatment can be divided into two types: hot phosphating and cold phosphating.

Sandblasting: Sandblasting involves spraying an abrasive material onto a steel surface to remove rust, dirt, and oxides, thereby preparing the surface for subsequent coating or treatment.

Anode Protection: Attaching a metal that oxidizes more easily, such as zinc or aluminum, to steel makes it a more active anode, slowing the corrosion of the steel.

Pickling: By soaking steel in an acidic solution, it removes surface oxides, rust spots and other impurities and improves surface cleanliness and corrosion resistance.

Electroplating: Provides corrosion resistance and decorative properties by electroplating a layer of metal, such as nickel, chromium, etc., on the steel surface.

Stainless steel: Use stainless steel, which contains alloy elements such as chromium to form a dense oxide layer and has good corrosion resistance.

Spray Hot Dip Aluminum (HDG): Aluminum is sprayed onto the steel surface and then hot-dipped to form a protective layer that is corrosion and heat-resistant.

Nitriding treatment: Expose the steel surface to an ammonia gas environment to form a nitriding layer to improve hardness and wear resistance.

Different surface treatment methods are suitable for different application scenarios, and choosing the appropriate treatment method usually depends on the specific requirements and environmental conditions.
