Application of aluminum alloy in manufacturing
Industrial components made of pure aluminum are rare. Most manufacturers use aluminum alloys that consist of aluminum as the base material and other metals such as zinc, tin, magnesium, or silicon. Additional metallic material enhances aluminum properties and makes parts more amenable to electroplating and other metal finishing techniques. For example, aluminum-magnesium alloys are used in many aircraft parts because their combination of lightweight construction and reduced flammability meets the stringent manufacturing requirements of the aerospace industry.
There are two main classifications of aluminum alloys: wrought and cast. Wrought aluminum alloys are the most commonly used type in the manufacture of products such as foil, profile and rolled plate. Cast alloys have lower tensile strength than wrought alloys, but their lower melting points make them a more cost-effective solution.
