An oil and gas equipment company approached us to produce 500 precision-machined stainless steel valve bodies for a subsea application. The parts required strict corrosion resistance, tight tolerances on sealing surfaces, and full material traceability according to industry standards.
The sealing surfaces required ±0.003mm tolerances and a Ra ≤ 0.8μm surface finish to prevent leaks in subsea high-pressure environments. Many shops were unable to achieve the consistent quality required for this application.
We selected 316L stainless steel for its excellent corrosion resistance in subsea environments and ensured full mill test reports (MTRs) for traceability. We employed a multi-step machining process, including rough machining, stress relief, semi-finish, and final finish machining to achieve the required tolerances while minimizing distortion.
Additionally, we partnered with our surface treatment team to perform passivation on all parts for improved corrosion resistance. Every part underwent pressure testing before shipment to ensure there were no porosity issues.
All 500 parts passed the client’s incoming inspection and pressure testing on the first try. The client was impressed with our attention to detail and documentation, making us their preferred supplier for all precision valve components.
